The Lord is our defender

The book of 2 Samuel 22:1-51 is an encouraging chapter, where king David expresses his joy and gratitude over what the Lord has done for him, defeating his enemies (including Saul). In this book, David describes how the Lord saw him being fearful over his enemies whom he describes as powerful and the Lord heard his cry and came to His rescue. David describes the Lord as his protector and strong fortress.

In this chapter we see the description of God's anger over those that were oppressing and contending with him, where in verse 15 says: "He shot his arrows and scattered the enemy, with great bolts of lightning he routed them." Remember Romans 12:19 "Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” says the Lord." God expects us to call on Him to fight our battles.

2 Samuel 22:17 further shows how God rescued David: "He reached down from on high and took hold of me; He drew me out of deep waters." This proves the power and might of God that He does come through for His own children and fight for them against their enemies.

This also serves as a warning to all of us that we should be careful and not be on the receiving end of God's anger, by being the enemy of His children. The bible says in Ephesians 4:32 "Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you."
