The old order of things has passed away
The book of Revelations can be intimidating and encouraging at the same time. Check what Revelations 21:1-8 says:
Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and He will dwell with them. They will be His people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then He said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children. But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—they will be consigned to the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death.”
This passage serve as an encouragement and a warning to all of us. We all want to be among those that God will be dwelling amongst, living in the new Holy City, where there will no longer be death, no more crying, no more pain; inheriting what God has in store. We also see what happens to those not in obedience to God, where they will be thrown into the fiery lake of burning sulfur, how bad would that be?
We normally say "life is short" it is short indeed, for we do not know the hour nor the minute that God will be calling us back. We also know that when He does, we will have to account to Him about the life we lived, how well we were stewards of the gifts and resources He entrusted us with, what our intentions were and how we treated others, His children. Therefore, we ought to treat each day as our last, live it as best as we could, doing the things He asked of us to, honouring His name. Of course we could never get it 100%, which is why we are grateful for Christ, in whom we've been made righteous; however I believe there's a certain level that we will have to account for.
For me, I'm expecting nothing less than a "well done my child"...and I believe it is possible.
