The story of the Israelites showing us some of God's characters

The bible story of the rescue of the Children of Israel from slavery, shows us some of God's characteristics that we can hold on to, for our own life experiences.

One of the biggest lessons in this story is that God sees everything! He might allow certain things to happen in our lives, but He also has an "Enough is Enough". The bible tells us that the Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians for over 400 years, and one day, God said it is Enough! That it was time His children be freed and that's when miracles started happening. Exodus 14:14 shows us that the Lord is our Defender: "The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” Also Exodus 14:31: "And when the Israelites saw the mighty hand of the Lord displayed against the Egyptians, the people feared the Lord and put their trust in him and in Moses his servant." God handled the battle for them and He rescued them from the Egyptians.

God is also our Guide. This is evident in Exodus 13:21 where it says: "By day the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night." God never wants us to get lost and hence He shows us the way. We need only be obedient and just follow. God is also the Way Maker. God was able to create a way for the Israelites where there was none. Exodus 14: 21: "And Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the Lord caused the sea to go back by a strong east wind all that night, and made the sea dry land, and the waters were divided." He was able to split the sea so they could walk on, in the same way that He will create a way for us, in our own circumstances.

God is also a Miracle Worker. Exodus 15:25 shows us where God asked Moses to throw a piece of wood into the water that was bitter, which turned fit for consumption. Only then the Israelites were able to drink water. In the same way, God will do the impossible for us.

He is also our Provider. Exodus 16:4 says: "Then the Lord said to Moses, “I will rain down bread from heaven for you. The people are to go out each day and gather enough for that day. In this way I will test them and see whether they will follow my instructions." God provided for them in the wilderness, He made food rain from heaven. That's amazing. This proves that we can truly trust that He will always take care of us, if we allow Him to.

God is also our Healer. Exodus 15:26 says: "He said, “If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in His sight, obeying his commands and keeping all His decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.” He is the one who healed the Israelites and He is still the one to also heal us now. Believe and receive His healing.

Of course God is so much more than this, these are just a few quick examples that are showing God's character through the Israelites that we can trust Him for ourselves. We should never doubt His power, the same God who performed miracles back then, is still the One that performs miracles even today. Pay close attention and you are sure to spot your own miracles.
