Surrender your troubles to Him

1 Peter 5:7-9

Cast all your anxiety on him because He cares for you. Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

It is a loaded verse, with a lot of truth in it. We are called to cast all our burdens unto Him, as God cares for us. God doesn't expect us to carry a heavy load in our hearts and mind, worrying about this and that. He already knows how that can negatively impact us. I heard that doctors say the most sicknesses that the patients encounter, is somewhat related to stress. Stress is as a result of worry of something, in any area of our lives; which is why God already knew that, and made a call to us, to release everything unto Him. You can do this by prayer, by being honest and acknowledging your weaknesses, (as God expects us to be honest with Him as He sees our thoughts, He knows what we think). Thus, invite Him to help.

The other part of this verse speaks of being alert and having a sober mind, as the enemy is roaring like a lion. This is encouragement for us to always be on the lookout. We already know that as children of God, the enemy is always looking for something to destabilize and bring harm on us. John 10:10 tells us that the enemy came to steal, kill and destroy. So don't be caught off guard. Stay in the presence of the Lord, through prayer, the word and praise and worship. By this, you will resist the devil through the power of God (Isaiah 54:17).

The last part reminds us that we were never promised to have a life without obstacles, but what God promised us, is to be with us in that storm, in that trouble. He'll be the forth man in the fiery furnace (Daniel 3), and victory will be ours.
