Receive His Gift
John 14:15-18 (NIV)
“If you love me, keep my commands. And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept Him, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him. But you know Him, for He lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
These were the words by Jesus to His disciples, giving them comfort about His departure. They were so used to living with Christ, serving with Him, seeing Him heal people, feeding multitudes, teaching and so much more. He understood that His departure would leave a gap in their lives. Hence, He made them a promise that when He leaves, He will ask His Father to send them an advocate, a helper, a comforter- the Holy Spirit, to be with them always. As we can imagine, whilst Jesus was living on earth, to access healing for example, people had to be in His presence. However, the greatest advantage we now have, is the Holy Spirit that is with us wherever we are. In times of trouble, we call on the name that is above all names, the name of Jesus and things change. His omnipresence makes all the difference.
As we remember during this Easter what a great gift God gave us through Jesus whom He had to sacrifice for us, may we keep that truth fresh in our hearts at all times. But most of all, may we receive this gift in order to access a wonderful relationship with God and all the other benefits that comes with it. A gift given but not opened nor used, is of no value. Therefore, Jesus did all He had to and concluded that "It is Finished". Now it's our part to receive all that He accomplished for us. It is a gift indeed!
