While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Passover is fast approaching and we are reminded of the significance of this time. We get to remember the price that was paid for us, not to just have life, but life more abundantly. God sacrificed His beloved Son so we can be reconciled with Him. I was quite moved to listen to one of the sermon where the differences in religions was unpacked. There are some similarities but what separates Christianity, is that our Father sacrificed His Son for us! He gave up His Son to die for our sin. He bore our shame on His body, our sickness, our weaknesses, our guilt and all other horrible traits. He was blameless yet He was crucified for our sin.
The explanation that for the first time, when Jesus was crucified, God turned His back on Him. He let Him be punished for us. God had forsaken His Son so that He may never forsake us. How wonderful is that! Our freedom was paid for, hence we must never forget that.
May this time of the year bring us closer to God, as we humble ourselves and show gratitude for what He has done. We can never repay Him for what He did, but atleast we can show gratitude by acknowledging and accepting this beautiful gift in our lives. We are truly priviledged and loved.
