Pursue love above all else

 1 Corinthians 14:1-3

Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation.

Our focus will always follow what we desire. God wants us to pursue love, above all else. His nature and character is simply love. He is love, He has love and everything He does, is out of love. In the same way, God wants us to pursue love, in everything we do, we must do it out of love. The chapter before this one, 1 Corinthians 13, explains what is love. This showing the importance thereof.

Secondly this verse shows us that we are to also desire spiritual gifts, especially prophecy. Other bible versions speaks of the desire to speak the word of God. This is one of the most helpful spiritual gifts, as people can be saved and they can gain understanding of what God says, encourage people and building them up; also providing consolation or comfort where it is needed. Personally, this is one the spiritual gifts that God has used strongly to open my eyes, bring me closer to Him, bring comfort and encouragement through His servants.

I pray you allow the Lord to use the spiritual gifts He may have deposited within you, to be a blessing to others (just like those that have been blessings to me). The world is in darkness and we need light, which we can get from God.
