Walk by the Spirit
Galatians 5:16 (NIV)
If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other. So I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
This warning and instruction, follows after the verse that says: love your neighbor as you love yourself. Therefore, if you don't do that and you bite and devour each other, you will destroy one another. That will be an act of the flesh, what in our human nature we would do. For example, if someone has done something terribly wrong to you, in your human nature, you might find yourself very upset with that person, saying nasty and hurtful things to them, or even fight with them physically and end up in jail. Can you see that possibly both lives will be destroyed? That is not what God wants for us, God wants us to live in peace with one another. Disagreements will be there, but they must not control us to a degree where we lose it.
This is where the Holy Spirit comes in. This verse tells us that if we walk by the Holy Spirit, we would not gratify those human desires, but we would have self control. Self control is one of the fruits of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). Should this be an issue for you, I would like to urge you to pray about it, ask for the Holy Spirit to intervene and help. Afterall, God sent us to be the ambassadors of His kingdom, which means we need to represent Christ in our doing. If we can recall, God sent Jesus to lead the way, to be our model. Through the Holy Spirit, we can also do it.
