Find rest...

 Matthew 11:28-29

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

The yoke that we put on ourselves and the yoke society puts on us, can leave us weary and heavily burdened. So much so, that we lose strength, we lose our vitality, our energy and our drive or passion for life. I believe these yokes are linked with the devil, to get to us, keep us frustrated and worn out that we feel finished and lack the passion for life. This is evident through the rules and laws that are oppresive, when actually Jesus has already set us free. When we got born again, we made an exchange with Christ, where we surrendered our old life, our old belief system, traditions and practices for His culture. We are now one, our blood is one!

Hence this invitation from Jesus that we must bring all these yokes that we bind ourselves in, to lay them down at His throne and pick up His yoke, which He promises that it is light and easy. He promises that with His way of living, His yoke, we will find rest. We will not be restless, worried about this and that; fulfilling this law and that law. As He simplified things for us, there only two laws we should comply with, and that is to love God with all our heart, all of our mind and all of our soul. Then, the second one being to love our neighbor as we love ourselves (Luke 10:27). Isn't that liberating? That we are free from all these laws but we should only focus on these two, then we are covered. Which is why He says we will find rest, as we do what He says we should do.

May we let go of our thinking, approach and will, and exchange it for His will, His yoke and find rest for our soul. We can even find rest at night, knowing that we should not wake up in the morning, we are in safe hands...
