The Lord determines the final outcome

 Proverbs 16:33

We may throw the dice, but the LORD determines how they fall.

The Lord is in control of everything, the earth and heaven. Afterall, He is the creator thereof. We may make our plans, but the Lord establishes our footsteps. This bible verse makes an example that similar to a dice, which we may throw, the Lord is the One that determines how it lands, which side will be up and which will be down. In a similar manner, we may prepare for whatever situation, but as for the finality thereof, it depends on the Lord. Proverbs 16:1 says: "We can make our own plans, but the LORD gives the right answer." The final answer comes from the Lord.

We can view this in a bad light, but it is also a positive thing. Say you want to take a particular job offer, it may seem perfect from the outside and you may not be aware of the negative aspects thereof until you have started working on this job. In this case, when we allow God to be in total control of our lives, He is able to shield you by closing that door, which you may not even understand why you didn't get that job as you qualified for it (for example); but God would've been aware of those negative aspects. In this case, that rejection, would be protection from God. Hence, for us it is to allow God to be God in our lives. The doors He closes, may seem unfair, but God knows better. It is wise to allow that door to be closed, so that He may open the one suited for you. Which is why they say a closed door is as much of a blessing as an open door! Change your perspective in life, and allow God to prune you as best as He sees fit (John 15:2).
