A call from God...
Joel 2:12-13 (NLT)
That is why the LORD says, “Turn to Me now, while there is time. Give Me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief, but tear your hearts instead.” Return to the LORD your God, for He is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. He is eager to relent and not punish.
This verse is loaded and it a call to action. The Lord is merciful and forgiving, that is in His nature. Which is why He gave up His Son for this reason, so that we may find forgiveness through Jesus and mend our relationship with Him. However, this will not happen unless we repent, see our wrongs and go before Him to ask for forgiveness. He wants us to turn away from our sinful, wicked ways and humble ourselves before Him. People normally postpone getting the salvation with a reason that there's still time to do so, and then focus on worldly things. But in reality as God says, we may be fooling ourselves if we think we are here to live forever. God calls back home whomever He wishes and whenever He sees fit. Therefore, we ought to stay ready, have our affairs in order- whilst there's still time! This can never be over-emphasized as it is so important!
The advantage we have, is that as this verse mentions, God is slow to anger, we may do wrongs a couple of times, He'll still give us a chance to fix things. And when we do, He is compassionate, and He will forgive. His aim is not to punish people but to save lives (that's the main reason for Jesus' purpose). Therefore, may this be a reminder, for us to take-stock of our lives and ensure that we give our lives to Him, that we welcome Him into our hearts as our Lord and Saviour. Secondly, to check if there are things that we may need to repent on and do so. He has open arms to welcome and refresh us. That is pleasing to Him and He will never keep record of all your wrongs, once forgiven, they are forgotten (though we must not sin again, as Jesus kept saying in the bible...).
