The Holy Spirit, our Guide...

 Galatians 5:16

So I say, let the Holy Spirit guide your lives. Then you won’t be doing what your sinful nature craves.

As humans, we don't have the power, we are weak; this weakness can lead us astray and get us into trouble. However, as children of God, we are blessed to have the Holy Spirit living in us, as our Comforter, Helper and Guide. This verse puts emphasis on the Holy Spirit being our guide, that He will help us not fall back into our sinful nature, but to remain in control of every situation and even our being. The aim of the enemy is to create temptations for the children of God, as a trap, to make them stumble and fall. However, our Father is our protector, and He is able to shield us from such traps, through the Holy Spirit who will continue to guide us on the path we should take.

When Jesus was about to ascend to heaven, the disciples were very saddened and troubled that their Shepherd, whom has been guiding them, leading them, protecting them, prospering them (and more) would be leaving them behind. This is understandable. Which is why in John 14:16 Jesus alleviated their fears, and Jesus said: "I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever." In this verse Jesus was referring to the Holy Spirit. Now the same help that they received, is the same help that we have access to, the Holy Spirit who dwells in us. Now we need not have to worry if we will fall back to our sinful nature (addictions of all sorts, stealing, killing etc.) but by the grace of God, we can access help from the Holy Spirit. Call on Him and ask for guidance, on every step you take. Psalm 119:105 says: "Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path." Thus, when the Holy Spirit leads you to certain scriptures, don't dismiss it, that's God at work in you, equipping you, strengthening you and protecting you. Just obey and believe God is in control, because He is!
