Channel your thoughts on things that are excellent and praiseworthy!

 Colossians 3:2

Think about the things of heaven, not the things of earth.

Things on earth are depressing, making us lose hope and can lead us to stagnation and bearing no fruits. What we see on the news and witness all around us, gives a gloomy picture, as if there is no hope for our future, our children and certainly not the next generation. I believe our answers though lies with our heavenly Father, who is the One who created heaven and earth, to begin with. Just like a car, when it has problems, you take it to the dealer (not the dentist or GP), but to those that have manufactured it as they would know where the problem is and fix it. So why can't we do the same with the problems here on earth? God as the Creator of all things, He has great insight and wisdom on how to bring everything back into order and alignment with his greater plan. Our problem is that we think we can solve our challenges on our own, without involving the Master, the Creator of the very thing we have issues with.

Therefore, this verse, commands us to lift our eyes, not to look around us to find answers, not to look within us but to look to Him, who knows everything. But also, not to focus too much on the here and now, problems and issues of the day, but to focus on what heaven says. Philippians 4:8 tells us exactly what to focus on and it says: "And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing. Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise." Force and train (over time) with the help of the Holy Spirit to keep your mind filled with thoughts about things that are good, positive, pure, lovely, admirable etc. Don't dwell on negative things all around you. This is not to say pretend certain issues are not there but pull yourself more towards what's good. Remember Romans 8:28 tells us that God will turn EVERYTHING for your good; no matter how bad it is, it will work in your advantage; hence, focus on the positive of that situation.
