Know your treasure.
Matthew 6:21
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
It is so important to be clear what your treasure is, because this verse tells us that it is where also your heart will be. Treasure is something that you value much, that could possibly occupy your mind and focus, the thing that you ensure it will last. In most cases, people see money as their treasure, which is why they end up doing anything at all, to get it (despite it compromising their values). It is for this reason that we have another verse that says the love for money is the root of all evil (1 Thimothy 6:10). A lot of people confuse this verse and say the money is the root of evil, which is not what this verse says. It says the love for money is the root of evil. Money as is, has no problem, it makes our lives easy, have a roof over our heads, we are able to feed ourselves, help other people and do so much with money. The problem comes when people treasure it above everything else, then their hearts will be in it as well.
Mathew 6:20 cautions and guides us as follows: "But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal." This is where you should put your treasure. Heaven and the kingdom of God, should be our focus, our treasure, our goal. And if we know our goal is to get to heaven, we then need to prepare whist we are still here on earth by being obedient to the Lord, building a relationship with Him and striving to live as Jesus Christ has taught us. That is storing up treasures in heaven, as opposed to things that the enemy can steal or that can get rusted or destroyed. Make the right choice...
