We are called to be cheerful givers...
2 Corinthians 9:7
You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
The scripture is clear about us giving in the form of tithes and offering. In the Old Testament, people were required to give through their animals and crops they grow, giving them back to the house of the Lord as an act of gratitude. The principle still remains, where now this could be in a form of money. What we need to realize is that we don't give because the Lord is in need of our offering, but we give as an act of obedience and also a request for the Lord to bless the rest from the portion given. This is a principle that allows us to reap where we sow. As individuals, we can decide for ourselves where we sow, do we sow in earthly places that may not yield any results or do we decide to sow in the kingdom of God, where God sees the act of obedience and promises to open the floodgates of heaven (Malachi 3:10)? Let us choose and prioritize wisely. We are reminded of this in the scripture that tells us that we reap what we sow, (Galatians 6:7-8). We need to sow in order to reap.
The verse for today shows us the heart of God towards our giving. God doesn't want us to give with a sore and complaining heart, but He wants us to give freely and cheerfully, without burden. Remember God sees our hearts, our intentions. Which is why, when we give with a cheerful heart, God is certainly going to bless that.
